Answer:
There are many rewards and benefits for visiting the graveyard. It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (r) that the Prophet of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Visit the graves, for they will remind you of the Hereafter.” [1]
Firstly, you will say salam to the people of the grave then make dua for them.
You could convey your salam for the people of the graveyard by saying the following:
OR
“Peace be upon you all, O inhabitants of the graves, amongst the believers and the Muslims. Indeed we are, Allah willing, soon to follow (to die also), we ask Allah for well-being for us and for you.”
Then you may make du’a, for instance:
1.
O’ Allah, forgive those of us who are living and those of us who are dead, those of us who are present and those of us who are absent, our young and our old, our male and our female. O’ Allah, to whomsoever of us Thou givest life grant him life as a believer, and whomsoever of us Thou takest in death take him in death as a follower of Islam.
2.
O’ Allâh! Forgive him and have mercy on him, give him well-being and overlook his faults, make his place of rest a noble place and expand (the door of) his entrance (into Paradise), wash him with water, snow and hail, and purify him of his sins as a white dress is cleansed from dirt, replace his home with a better home, his family with a better family and his spouse with a better spouse. Admit him into Paradise and shelter him from the punishment of the grave.
May Allah SWT grant forgiveness for the whole Muslim Ummah.
